Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1
Location: Bethany Bay
Coordinates: 38°34'57 and 75°6'28
On Wednesday afternoon, July 10th, Indian River (80), Bethany Beach (70), Dagsboro (73), and Millsboro (80) fire companies were alerted to assist the Millville (84) Fire Company with a water rescue incident in the Bethany Bay area. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the DNREC Fish & Wildlife Marine Police, the United States Coast Guard – Indian River Inlet and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2. It was reported to be a 65-year old male on a yellow kayak missing.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 2 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response units responded to the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp for launching to navigate toward the designated coordinated in the Bethany Bay area. The Delaware State Fire Police assigned to Indian River coordinated access for the public boat ramp during the incident.
80 Marine 1 did arrive in the Bethany Bay vicinity before being cancelled as Trooper #2 did locate a yellow kayak in the 2nd Street area and it was reported that the kayaker was back on land.
