On Saturday, July 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded and/or participated at multiple activities throughout the day.  Identified herewith is an incident synopsis of the day’s responses:

•                09:20 - Nature: Alarms - Residential (Single) - Smoke detector

This incident was an automatic fire alarm activation with Rescue 80, Incident Command, and Tanker 80 responding to the Meadows Lane address in Pot Nets Bayside for a hallway smoke detector activation which was the result of a culinary mishap.  All units were cancelled while responding.

•                12:05 - Nature: Small Outside Fire

This incident was an outside fire alarm with Rescue 80, Incident Command, Brush 80 and Tanker 80 responding to the Robin Hoods Loop in Sherwood Forest development off John J. Williams Highway.  This was a result of a burning in the back yard complaint.  All units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.

•                13:12 - Nature: Mvc Pd Request

This incident was a property damage vehicle accident with Engine 80-1, Incident Command and the Delaware State Fire Police responding to Bay Farm Road for traffic control with fluid and debris clean-up.  Additional information may be reviewed at https://irvfc.com/gallery/detail?id=50868  

•                13:42 - Nature: Water Rescue - Coastal water (Assist Bethany Beach)

This incident was a water rescue incident with Brush 80-0 and 80 Marine 2, Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1respondnging to the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp with reports that a vessel was anchored out on a sandbar with a person unconscious and unresponsive.  The anchored vessel did transport the patient to the Indian River Inlet Marina area for awaiting EMS personnel.  Many responding units were staged at specific marine launch points and then cancelled.  This incident was assisting the Bethany Beach (70) Fire Company.

•                21:15 - Nature: Gas Leak (Natural and LP Gases)

This incident was a reported gas leak with Rescue 80, Incident Command, and Engine #80-1 responding to West Mallard Road in the Pot Nets Dockside development off Long Neck Road.  This incident was reported that a gas on the stove was left on for approximately five (5) hours.   Natural ventilation and an exterior and interior evaluations conducted with all units being authorized to return to their respective quarters.

Additionally, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided duty crew for the firework standby assignments in

  1. Rehoboth Beach with a brush truck crew and a Polaris UTV crew for specific assignments commencing at 6 p.

  2. Sun Retreats – Rehoboth Bay (formerly Leisure Point) with an engine crew and marine unit crew commencing at 8 p.
