Nature: Automatic Crash Notification - Vehicle Accident w/Medics (Rollover) – Mount Joy Road

Location: 25021 Herman Lane Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Monday morning, July 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic crash notification which was amended to a vehicle accident with rollover on Herman Lane and Mount Joy Road.  The initial iphone crash notifications received were from two different devices.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, traffic control, fluid and debris recovery, notification of the utility service provider because the utility services were disconnected in the area, as well as discontinuation of aviation and additional EMS services.

It appears that a black JEEP Patriot was traveling on Mount Joy Road and did not successfully navigate the curve, leaving the roadway striking signage, utility pole and trees then rolling over.  The utility pole was broken in two causing the power outage to the area.  The EMS provider did transport one occupant to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of Mount Joy Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
