Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics
Location: John J Williams Hwy and Oak Orchard / Mount Joy Rd Millsboro, DE 19966
On Thursday afternoon, June 27th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at the intersection of Mount Joy Road. It was reported to be an overturned dump truck spilling crush n’ run onto the road and a silver Chevrolet Pick-up. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the DNREC Environmental Protection Agents, the Millsboro (83) Volunteer Fire Company’s Hazardous Material Unit, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, and the Delaware Department of Transportation.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 and Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility, emergency first responders from the Oak Orchard facility and the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, patient stabilization if needed, vehicle stabilization where needed and overall incident mitigation efforts.
It appears that a red dump truck loaded with crush’n run stones collided with a silver Chevrolet Pick Up causing the dump truck to overturn.
The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close John J. Williams Highway for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware Department of Transportation was required to respond to the scene with arrow boards for directional traffic, street sweeper apparatus, and the Supervisor to coordinate full mitigation efforts of the load spillage from the truck..
The Millsboro (83) Hazardous Materials Unit responded to mitigation to fluid spells from the dump truck and other incident mitigation efforts.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
