Get to Know Your Local Firefighter/First Responder… Arnold "Arnie" Pitman

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company will implement a “Get to Know Your Local Firefighter or First Responder…” Campaign to enhance awareness with respect to your local volunteer firefighters and to highlight the need for volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention initiatives.

Indian River wants you to think about your current community — where you live! You have your family, some neighbors, and friends, and some of you may have extended family living near you as well. Indian River would like you to think about getting to know another group of people in your community -- your local firefighters and first responders.

This public outreach campaign will highlight a chosen first responder to enhance awareness …

Indian River has chosen Fire Police Officer – Arnold “Arnie” Pitman for this edition of “Get to Know Your Local Firefighter or First Responder.”

As a fire police officer, Arnie responds to a myriad of emergency incidents to assist with traffic and crowd control while addressing the access limitations of the incident.  Arnie has been involved in the volunteer fire service for the past 68 years in New Jersey (Cape May and Bernardsville) and Delaware (Indian River and Rehoboth Beach).

Arnie’s experiential background in the fire service includes firefighter, Ambulance Lieutenant, Ambulance Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief as well as Fire Police Officer. Arnie has worked on many committees including Fire Prevention, Ways & Means, Community Relations and is affiliated with the Sussex County Volunteer Fire Police Association.

Arnie hails from the Sloan Road area near the Pinewater Farms development and has been an extremely active volunteer and incident top responder while representing the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company.

Please join us in acknowledging Arnold Pitman and thanking him for his service.
