On Tuesday afternoon, June 11^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire off Cove Drive in the Mariner’s Cove Maintenance Yard.  It was reported to be a utility type trailer with lawn maintenance equipment inside with exposures to nearby pontoon boats.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included implementation of an 1¾” fire suppression lines as well as water supply to Engine #80-3 when needed.  All firefighters donned their PPE (personal protective equipment) and SCBA to fulfill their assignments of fire suppression and overhaul where needed.

It appears that a lawnmower type vehicle was loaded into the enclosed utility trailer and placed in the maintenance yard adjacent to a pontoon boat.  The lawnmower was just previously utilized.  The pontoon boat did suffer heat and fire damage.  The utility trailer and equipment were a complete loss.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
