Nature: Structure Fire – Assist Millsboro (83)

Location: 30141 George Washington Av., Independence, DE 19966

On Friday morning, May 24^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Millsboro (83) Fire Company with a residential structure fire on George Washington Avenue in the Independence development off Indian Mission Road. It was reported to be a structure fire within the attic area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included establishing a water supply from nearby hydrants, 360 degree evaluation of the structure, initial fire suppression attack line into the residential structure, apparatus was to leave room for room for responding aerial truck, coordination of utility service disconnections, and other incident mitigation efforts.  

Initial arriving first responders identified smoke showing from side A of the structure.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
