Indian River Recognizes Joseph H. Thompson, III

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to pay homage and recognize Joseph H. Thompson, III as one that has served the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company for the past 25 years as a volunteer firefighter and voice throughout Sussex County.

Joseph joined the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company in September, 1998 and has performed many duties and remained an active participant within many facets representing Indian River in the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association (DVFA), Delaware State Fire Chiefs Association, Sussex County Firefighters Association and the Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association, etc.

Highlighted are Joseph’s appointments and/or accomplishments within the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company;

• Captain – Fire and Rescue

• Firefighter of the Year Award Recipient

• Henry C. Warrington Memorial Award Recipient

• Past President of the Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association (2020-2021 Term of Office)

• Current President of the Sussex County Firefighters Association (2023-2024 Term of Office)

• Past Director of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association (DVFA)

• Distinctive Life Membership Pin from Indian River;

• Distinctive Firefighter Plaque Memorializing Joseph’s Presidency with the Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association, Sussex County Firefighters Association and Life Member Award.
