Nature: Smoke Investigation

Location: Across Route 24 near the woods

Address:  29255 Honeysuckle Knoll, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday morning, May 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a smoke investigation incident because the reporting person just sees black smoke across from his apartment.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew initially responded to the reporting person’s location and then responded to Layton Davis Road for further evaluation which lead to a residential location on Honeysuckle Knoll where they identified an inappropriate control burn.  The residents were apprised of the burn ban restrictions and requested to extinguish their burn.

After consultation with the property occupants, all emergency response units were permitted to return to their respective quarters.

Please be advised that a statewide control burning ban is in effect starting May 1st 2024 and will cease on September 30th, 2024. There is NO open / control burning permitted during the Ozone Season (May 1-Sept. 30), with the exception of cooking fires, campfires, patio fire pits, chimenea, and ceremonial bonfires. ALL other burning must wait until after October 1.
