Nature: Training Evolutions – Fire Hose Handling Techniques
Location: Delaware State Fire School – Georgetown Campus
On Wednesday evening, April 24th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company conducted training evolutions at the Delaware State Fire School – Georgetown Campus to enhance firefighting techniques for fire hose handling for interior and exterior operations, stretching fire lines into a structure, pump operations, ventilation tactics, and hydrant operations.
These training evolutions targeted specific fire suppression hose handling objectives to address a fully charge hose line for nozzle operators and back-up personnel. Handling a fully charged hose line is a demanding and strenuous task. A fully charged fire suppression attack line pushes back with significant pressure and force. Working against that force allows fatigue to quickly set in. Nozzle operators must employ different techniques to reduce fatigue while maintaining control of the line in exterior and interior settings. Advancing hose lines into a structure is an arduous task as well.
Other training evolutions included pump operator activities with fire hydrant connections and structure ventilation techniques to assist the suppression efforts.
Illustrated herewith are photographs that highlight the evening’s activities.
