Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: 30824 Friendship Rd Millsboro, DE 19966
Late Tuesday evening, April 23rd, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Friendship Road near Millsboro. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2. It was identified as a single vehicle into woods with occupant entrapment.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police
Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization if needed, patient stabilization assistance if needed, traffic control and overall incident mitigation efforts.
It appears that a BMW sports car was traveling on Friendship Road and lost control running into the nearby wooded area striking a tree. The aviation unit and additional rescue assistance from Lewes Fire Department were cancelled. The occupant was transported to nearby medical facility for additional medical services.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.

UPDATE: Millsboro man dies after crashing car into a tree Tuesday, April 23rd
MILLSBORO, Del.- Police are investigating after a car ran into the woods off Friendship Road near Millsboro. Delaware State Police say at approximately 11:46 p.m., a BMW 328 was driving westbound on Friendship Road west of Independence Drive.
According to DSP, 19-year-old-driver of the BMW, a man from Millsboro, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Wednesday, he died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments received alerts for a rescue operation involving the trapped occupant. Firefighters say they were able to get the driver out and take them to a hospital for their injuries. Firefighters say it happened shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
