Nature: Vehicle Rescue Training & Evolutions
Location: Station #2 – Banks Road
On Wednesday, March 27th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company conducted on of its monthly training evolutions in conjunction with the instructors from the Delaware State Fire School (DSFS) which focused on vehicle rescue evolutions to introduce and reinforce concepts for vehicle entrapment extrication.
The highlights of the discussion included:

Anatomy of vehicles – safety systems, unibody vs. frame, vehicle construction, occupant safety cage, crumple zones, post locations (A, B, C, D), pillar cut points,

Stabilization – cribbing, chains and ratcheting devices, jacks, and flatten tires, brakes, etc.

Extrication tools and equipment – hydraulic tools, cordless tools and hand tools, etc.

Cutters, spreaders, rams
-
Halligan, Axe, Sledgehammer, pry bar, etc.

Vehicle Extrication and Cutting Practice Evolutions
Much of the evening’s activities were designed to reinforce and practice actual maneuvers for accessing and extricating vehicles of entrapment.
