Nature: All-Terrain Vehicle (Polaris 80) Training

Location: Station #1 – Oak Orchard

 

On Sunday March 10th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company hosted an internal in-service training evolutions regarding UTVs and ATVs.  The objective of the training included the following objectives:

  • These UTVs / ATVs are tools, not toys. To safely operate a UTV, the operator must practice the same precautions as when operating tractors, skid steer loaders, etc.  Before driving, a safe and effective driver should familiarize themselves with their machine by reading the owner's handbook, adhering to the vehicle's safety labels, and completing safety training which covers equipment and anatomy, maintenance and inspections, safe operations and stability, common hazards, etc.

  • Loading and unloading from the transport trailer.

  • Basic operation of the units.

  • Fire Suppression Pump operations.

  • Proper apparatus tie down to the trailers.

  • Do’s and don’ts

This in-service training was conducted in 3-hour intervals with as much hands-on evolutions are needed,
