On Saturday afternoon, January 27th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to provide a standby cover up assignment for the Millsboro (83) Volunteer Fire Company while try were mitigating a structure fire incident on Landfill Lane.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility.

In addition to the Millsboro (83) fire company the following mutual aid partners responded to the incident location:  Georgetown (77), Laurel (81), Blades (71), Dagsboro (73), and Delmar (74) with other assistance from Milton (85), the Sussex County Paramedics, DNREC and the Delaware State Fire Marshal.

Structure fire in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del. - According to the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal, around 1:30 p.m., a fire broke out in the 29000 block of Landfill Lane in Georgetown. Officials say the Millsboro Fire Company was assisted by other companies and discovered smoke and fire coming from a structure at the Delaware Solid Waste Authority Facility.

During the investigation. Delaware State Fire Marshal Deputies determined the fire was accidental and was caused by a mechanical malfunction of operating equipment. Officials say the structure was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported. The damage is estimated to exceed $1,000,000.
