Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: John J. Williams Hwy and Bay Farm Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, January 27th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at the Bay Farm Road intersection. It was reported to be a single vehicle incident that struck a cross walk safety indicator sign with the vehicle becoming dislodged.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, and efforts to remove the vehicle from on top of the safety signage. The front of the vehicle was on top of the signage base and the vehicle could not be maneuvered off. A Hurst tool was utilized to lift the vehicle off the signage.

It appears that blue Hyundai sedan was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and did not safety navigate the intersection striking the crosswalk safety signage and becoming disabled. The occupant refused any emergency medical services.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident. 

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
