Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 22517 Wood Branch Rd Georgetown, DE 19947

On Wednesday morning, January 3rd, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Milton (85) fire companies were alerted to assist Georgetown (77) Fire Company with a residential structure fire on Wood Branch Road near Georgetown.  Other mutual aid companies were dispatched to assist which included the Georgetown American Legion Ambulance, the Sussex County Paramedics and standby companies. It was reported to smoke coming from the garage door and chimney area before Georgetown Incident Command identified heavy smoke in the area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units from Indian River assisted with fire suppression, overhaul, and saturation efforts during clean up.   Tanker 80 was diverted to another incident within Indian River's fire district.

It appears that a fire may have originated in the garage area which extended into the residential structure causing significant damage.  Some parts of the fire extended into nearby vehicles that were located on the property as well.  Multiple fire suppression attack lines were placed in-service to mitigate the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.

The Delaware State Police were also requested to respond to the incident location.
