On Wednesday, November 1st, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Phillips Branch Road west of Hollymount Road.  It was reported to be a single vehicle rollover with a person unable to get out of vehicle.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, LifeNet2 Aviation Unit as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 and Chief #80-15 from the Long Neck area, Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included preparation for extrication with vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, traffic control with closure of Phillips Branch Road.  Engine #80-1 was assigned to initiate vehicle stabilization and activate a 1¾” line for safety precautions.  Additional resources were assigned to the manpower pool.  Other responding apparatus from mutual aid companies and aviation were cancelled.

It appears that a marron Acura RDX was traveling east on Phillips Branch Road and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking trees and rolling over.  The driver was not able to self-extricate from the vehicle.  One person was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
