Nature: Structure Fire

On Wednesday evening, October 25, 2023, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was enroute to a designated training event at the Delaware State Fire School – Georgetown Campus when the Georgetown (77), Milton (85), and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a structure fire on Shingle Point Road outside Georgetown.  It was reported to be a working residential structure fire with fire and smoke showing as well as downed electrical wires.

Indian River with Tower 80 and Engine #80-3 were redirected to the fire ground operations as well as the Ellendale (75), Millsboro (83), the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Georgetown American Legion EMS.  Many other mutual aid companies were alerted to provide assistance and/or standby cover up assignments.

All responding units were assigned to assist with fire suppression and other fire ground operations that included but not limited to aerial truck operations, water supply operations, primary and secondary search operations, and many other tasks.  Incident Command reporting a collapse on the second floor with heavy fire involvement through the roof.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
