Nature: State Representative Jeff Hilovsky Tours Inland Bay Areas of Oak Orchard – Long Neck
On Saturday, September 23th, State Representative Jeff Hilovsky, 4th District – Delaware House of Representatives toured the impacted area of Tropical Storm Ophelia.
Representative Hilovsky took an actual tour of the impacted area to gain firsthand knowledge and see how is representative district withstood the recent periods of inclement weather.
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was honored to coordinate this tour and assigned Deputy Chief Ryan Mock to chauffeur Representative Hilovsky and provide this survey of the impacted areas which included but not limited to Oak Orchard, Riverdale, Long Neck, White House Beach, Pot Nets communities, Mariner’s Cove and many other areas.
Representative Hilovsky stated “…I was riding with IRVFC Deputy Chief Ryan Mock yesterday to survey neighborhood flooding and other potential damage from Ophelia. Top wind gusts were reported as 63 mph winds to accompany 3.7” of rain. Event though much of the land in the Long Neck / Oak Orchard area is just slightly above sea level the flooding could have been much worse. There were no forced evacuations.
Many thanks to the dedicated ALL VOLUNTEER Indian River Volunteer Fire Company for assessing flooding damage every 3-4 hours while fielding calls for assistance. Additional kudos to DelDOT staff for placing hazard signs, closing roads, and coordinating with local fire companies. As usual the Delaware State Police responded, monitored, and managed roadway safety throughout the storm with precision and utmost professionalism. Thanks!”
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company identifies that it was our pleasure to provide this service to Representative Hilovsky and we will continue to provide the needed services to protect our fire district.
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company thanks Representative Hilovsky for allowing us to provide such a community service.
