Nature: Vehicle Fire

Location: Holly Lake Campsites SITE #653

On Sunday morning, September 10^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire incident at Holly Lake Campsite Lot #653.  It was reported that a camper had a lightning strike, smelled smoke and saw fire under the camper. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. 

Emergency response crew assignments included an interior and exterior evaluation utilizing the thermal imaging camera, disconnected the utility services, evaluated and inspected inside and underneath the camper and could not ascertain any additional concerns.  Rescue 80 proceeded to the incident location in Holly Lake while the other responding units were reassigned to an alarm sounding at Giant Foods.

It appears that the recreational camper occupants witnessed a lightning strike, smelled smoke and witnessed fire under the camper.   Emergency response crew evaluated and checked the camper and advised the occupant to consult with an electrician and the propane service provider to ensure their evaluations as well.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control at the entrance to Holly Lake Campsites.
