Nature: Brush Fire

Location: 34095 Sand Piper Lane, Pots Nets Bayside, DE 19966

On Friday afternoon, September 8^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a brush fire on Sandpiper Lane in the Pot Nets Bayside development.  It was reported to be a brush fire with extension into the exterior side of a shed.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush #80-0 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignment included fire suppression efforts to fully saturate the surrounding area, to check for extensions into the shed, and suppression of any remaining issues with the shed’s exterior siding.

It appears that a homeowner was cutting grass when a spark from the mower ignited nearby grass and brush which extended into the exterior of the shed.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
