Nature: Odor Investigation – Third Incident in District – Peninsula Lakes

Location: 29402 Tree Swallow Dr Peninsula Lakes, DE 19966

On Friday evening, September 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company received a third incident in the fire district and received mutual aid assistance from the Lewes Fire Department.  It was reported to be a burning rubber smell coming from between the houses.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 which was returning the structure fire on Fox Hound Lane, the Lewes Fire Department units returning from the Pot Nets Seaside incident, and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an evaluation of multiple residences, review of perimeter locations on both sides of the street, evaluation of sewer and storm water management drains with no immediate indication for the source.

The residents reported an odor of rubber burning or some burning smells that has been present on Tree Swallow Drive and Tributary Boulevard in Peninsula as well as an evaluation of Legion Road.  Multiple crews participated in the evaluation with no success.   Later in the early morning hours, the Indian River Duty Officer was alerted for an Officer’s Call incident in the William Ritter Manor development which was apparently the source of the burning odor.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control.
