Nature: Multi Residential Fire

On Tuesday evening, July 25^th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) were alerted for a multi-residential structure fire on Mayfield Road in the Victoria’s Landing development off John J. Williams Highway. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines 80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included an interior and exterior evaluation, assistance with ventilation, the assignment was reduced to Indian River and Lewes units on location and with continuation of the interior evaluation.

The incident was originally reported to be an accidental activation via the interior keypad; however, the alarm continues to go off and the residential occupant would like an evaluation.  An officer’s call was initiated and then upgraded because the interior of the structure was full with smoke.  It was determined to a faulty battery leaking within the smoke detector causing the hazy conditions.

All units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
