Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: Indian Summer Village (80)

On Friday afternoon, June 9th, the Indian River (80) and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Indian Summer Village. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Recue Squad, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2, the Sussex County Paramedics as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. It was reported to be a single vehicle rollover with occupant trapped inside.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization assistance, vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, landing zone assignment, and overall incident mitigation. The rescue assist response from the Millsboro (83) Fire Company was not needed and cancelled while they were responding to the incident location.
It appears that a silver Acura TL was traveling westbound on John J. Williams Highway and lost control, striking a utility pole, and overturning the vehicle. The vehicle’s occupant was transported via helicopter to Christiana Hospital. The respective utility service provider was notified to respond to evaluate the integrity of the utility pole.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the closure and detour of John J. Williams Highway for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
