Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

On Friday afternoon, June 2^nd, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments as well as the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2 and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were alerted for a vehicle accident with roll-over and occupant entrapment.  It was reported to be two vehicle accident with one rollover in the vicinity of the Crab Barn To Go / AMVETS on Long Neck Road.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-1 and 80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization where needed, vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, and overall incident mitigation efforts. 

It appears that a dark gray Jeep truck and a white Chrysler Pacifica mini-van collided in the area of AMVETS on Long Neck Road.  The collision caused the Jeep to overturn and hampered the occupant from initially exiting the vehicle.  The emergency medical services (EMS) did transport to nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the traffic control assignment with traffic patterns on Long Neck Road being significantly impacted for the duration of the incident.  The traffic flow was limited to one lane for much of the incident closing significant backlog concerns.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
