Nature: Vehicle Fire

On Monday afternoon, May 22^nd,  the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire in the parking lot of Giant Foods on Plaza Drive. The initial report was for a minivan that was smoking.

Emergency response from Indian River included Chief 80-15 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80-3 and Deputy 80 from the Long Neck area, as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Prior to the arrival of apparatus, a dry chemical extinguisher was used by responders on scene to suppress the fire, located in the interior of the vehicle.

Apparatus assignments included an interior evaluation for extension and ventilation of the vehicle.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic around the incident, within the parking lot.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall was requested to respond for evaluation.

The fire was believed to be accidental. The vehicle was turned back over to the owner.
