Nature: Woods Fire

Location: 33629 Samantha Dr Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday morning, April 22^nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a woods fire on Samantha Drive off Friendship Road.  It was reported that a resident was attempting to burn some tall grass by the garden area that has gotten out of control and into the nearby wooded area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush #80-0 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression activities to cease the spread of the fire, water supply efforts for brush and engine apparatus, traffic control for access and perimeter control.

It appears as reported that the property resident was attempting to burn some tall grass that has gotten out of control due to the dry windy conditions and spread into the nearby woods.  The fire spread did cause an extensive need area saturation to prevent further ignition and spread.

The Delaware State Fire Police did provide traffic control for access and perimeter control.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control Officers were notified and will be following up regarding the incident.
