Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

Location: Ragtop Crossing and Hollymount Road, Harbeson, DE 19951

On Friday morning, March 31st, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a vehicle with entrapment on Hollymount Road in the vicinity of Ragtop Crossing.  It was reported to a be single vehicle collision with a vehicle into a utility pole, low hanging wires with one person visible in the vehicle but unresponsive.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engines #80-1, #80-3 and Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Other emergency response units included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, and the Delaware State Fire Police.  The Lewes Fire Departments responded with Rescue 82 and Engine 82-2.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, where needed, patient stabilization with a primary 1 patient in respiratory arrest, traffic control with closure of Hollymount Road, notification of utility service provider for broken utility pole, notification of DELDOT, etc.

It appears that a white Honda Accord was traveling south on Hollymount Road and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking a utility pole.   The occupant of the vehicle was unresponsive in respiratory arrest and needed emergency medical assistance.  The Delaware State Police Aviation unit landed in a nearby field to assist the emergency medical personnel.  DELDOT was notified to provide assistance with traffic control for the duration of the utility pole replacement initiative.

The Delaware State Fire Police provide traffic closure assistance with Hollymount Road/

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

HARBESON, Del.- A car crashed into a pole in Harbeson Friday afternoon.

According to Delaware State Police, a 31-year-old man from Millsboro was driving eastbound on Hollymount Road.

Police say the car was driven off the road and into the pole.

DSP says the man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

The man is now in custody with charges pending for driving under the influence and drug possession.

Police say no one else was hurt and no other cars were involved.
