Nature: Residential Structure Fire

Incident Notes:  Hyrdrant @ Starboard & Portside

Address:  34935 Starboard Ct Rehoboth Shores, DE 19966

On Sunday afternoon, March 19th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a residential structure on Starboard Court in the Rehoboth Shores development off Long Neck Road.  It was reported to be a working structure fire with neighbors identifying fire and smoke visible from within the structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facilities as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident size up which reported a single wide manufactured residential structure with smoke and fire showing, apparatus was ordered to commence with fire suppression attack lines, evaluate structure for occupancy, establish a water supply with additional apparatus accessing hydrants as identified, establishment of a manpower pool, discontinuation of utility services to the structure, traffic control to limit access to the impact area, and overall incident mitigation efforts. Some responding apparatus was reassigned to perform a cover-up standby assignment at Indian River Station #1 and Station #2 as a precautionary measure.  Other apparatus was assigned to stage on the roadway surfaces and send crews to the manpower pool.

It appears that a single wide manufactured home adjacent to the address reported was involved with an interior fire causing heavy smoke and fire damage as well as water damage associated with the fire suppression actions of the emergency first responders.  One first responder was injured during the incident which required evaluation. The incident did cause significant interior damage to the residential structure basically rendered it inhabitable.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall Office is investigating.
