Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: John J Williams Hwy and Indian Mission Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday, March 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident at the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and Indian Mission Road.  It was reported to be a two vehicle accident at the intersection.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Chief 80-15, Engines #80-1 & #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, assistance with patient stabilization where needed, establishment of a landing zoning, and overall incident mitigation efforts.

It appears that a white Nissan Rogue and a blue Hyundai Genesis collided at or near the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and Indian Mission Road significantly damaging both vehicles.  The Nissan continued off the roadway striking a utility pole.  It appears that a medical condition may have been the rationale for the incident.  The occupant of the Nissan was flown to nearby medical facilities for additional medical services.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of the intersection for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
