Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics

On Saturday afternoon, March 4^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in front of the Coastal Clean Car Wash and Dollar General store.  It was reported to be a two vehicle collision with unknown status of occupants.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80, Chief 80-15, and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard location.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization where needed, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control with closure of John J. Williams Highway and overall incident mitigation efforts.

It appears that a Chrysler mini-van pulled out from the Dollar General / Renaissance Nursing Home Complex and was struck by a black KIA sedan traveling west on John J. Williams Highway causing significant damage to both vehicles rendering them inoperable.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident with both east and west bound traffic being detoured.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
