Duty Crew Recognition & Acknowledgement
In early Calendar Year 2022, specific fire line officers of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company requested consideration to develop and implement a Duty Crew Standard Operating Guideline (SOG) to allow the activation and utilization of firefighter duty crews. This initiative commenced on May 14, 2022, with the intent to provide Indian River’s fire district with an immediate response of certified volunteers which include an officer, three (3) firefighters, and one (1) emergency medical responder to be housed at one of our stations during designated shifts.
The duty crew assignments had to incorporate a training component, an apparatus/facility cleaning component, and an officer discretion assignment component during each shift.
The initiative was implemented during the Spring 2022 and has been extremely successful and utilized throughout the calendar year and especially during peak seasons. Again, the volunteerism, dedication, and enthusiasm of our membership team with these endeavors has been extremely well received by the first responders, the community as well as great recruitment and retention efforts.
Therefore, the Board of Directors and Officers took the opportunity at the Annual Appreciation Banquet to “thank” the participants for their contribution of time and offer these tokens of appreciation for expending a great deal of personal effort in serving this organization.
