Approaching Spring Safety Message
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company offers this commentary regarding the approaching spring season and efforts to prepare for the upcoming Spring season.
As seasons change most people are happy to see the end of winter approaching and the first signs of spring appearing. However, that doesn’t mean that things becomes easier for many property owners and residents! In fact, there are many hazards to look out for in the approaching spring season. We hope these safety comments will help you prepare for a safe spring season.
?Be safe this spring and remember the following tips:
-
Be ready for changeable weather. The weather can easily fluctuate between dry and deluge and warm and cold in no time during this time period.
-
Be careful when walking on wet surfaces.
-
Slips, trips and falls can be an issue during these times.
-
Keep family and pets away from the edges of all bodies of water.
-
Avoid all recreational activities in or around water.
-
If you live close to the water, move objects such as chairs or benches away from the water’s edge or piers to avoid losing them during potential spring high winds and water conditions.
-
Avoid walking close to/across riverbanks to prevent falling. Riverbanks can become unstable in the spring due to melt and erosion.
-
Be careful around waterways.
Be safe and remember safety starts with you!
