Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics
Location: John J Williams Hwy & Hazzard Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966
On Monday, February 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway near Hazzard Lane. It was reported to be a vehicle into the water with occupant entrapment.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility with emergency alerts including the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2 and ground units, Lewes Fire Department for a rescue unit assist, and the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response personnel were assigned to gain access to the vehicle and assist with extricating the occupant. Crews utilized ground ladders to successfully navigate the wet marshy conditions to reach the vehicle and remove the vehicle’s occupant. Others were assigned to coordinate traffic control with closure of John J. Williams Highway for the duration of the incident, assistance with patient stabilization, and assist the towing company with removal of the vehicle from the marshy area. Other responding personnel including Trooper #2 and mutual aid assistance were cancelled while responding to the incident.
It appears that a white Subaru Outback was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and left the roadway for an unknown reason traveling into the marsh area stopping when the vehicle as partially submerged into the water. The occupant needs assistance with removal from the vehicle and was transported to nearby medical facilities.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
