Early Wednesday, January 18th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire company was alerted an area cover-up assignment for the Millsboro (83) Fire Company while many neighboring fire crews battled a building fire in Laurel.

Firefighters from Laurel remain on the scene of a 3-alarm fire that destroyed the 1 Chinese Restaurant building at 130 E Market St in Laurel. There have been no reports of injuries. Full details will be provided as they are released.

Update from State FM
The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that damaged a commercial structure in downtown Laurel, Delaware on January 18, 2023.
The incident, reported shortly before 1:00 A.M., occurred in the 100 block of East Market Street Laurel, Delaware. The Laurel Fire Department arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure. The building was not occupied at the time of the fire. Several surrounding structures were damaged by the fire. Mutual aid fire companies assisted at the scene.
State fire investigators were called to the scene along with Agents from the ATF (Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms). Investigators are performing an investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire. There were no reported injuries to persons or firefighters. Damage is estimated at approximately $2,000,000.
