On Saturday, December 31^st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an elevator rescue on two separate occasions at the apartment complex on Harvard Avenue in Carillon Woods.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were assigned to assist with extrication of occupants from the struck elevator, if needed, and requested maintenance personnel to coordinate an evaluation and inspection to prevent further instances.

During the second instance and after occupants were out of the elevator, the unit was shut off requiring the maintenance personnel to coordinate an evaluation and inspection before reactivation of the unit to prevent any further emergency alerts because of these unfortunate incidents.

As growth with multi-family residential structures become more common place within our immediate fire district, so do such elevator rescue incidents and alerts.These incidents require the fire department to respond and pursue measures to extricate occupants and recommend corrective action via the facility management entities.

There were no reported injuries associated with these incidents.
