Nature: Washdown (Fuel Spill)

Location: Station 91 Headquarters

Address:  31738 Indian Mission Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday, December 5, 2022, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a washdown assignment for a petroleum product spill on Indian Mission Road in the northbound traffic lane.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fluid and debris recovery as well as traffic control for duration of the incident.

It appears that a northbound traveling vehicle unknowingly dispersed hydraulic fluid or petroleum-based product onto the travel lane causing an extremely slippery surface that needed mitigation.   Crews dispersed and swept this segment of highway in question to permit a safer passage way for the traveling motorists.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
