Nature: Commercial Structure Fire

On Saturday, December 3rd, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a commercial structure fire at the Baywood Greens Clubhouse off John J. Williams Highway. It was reported to have smoke coming from the kitchen area of the structure. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included evaluation and investigation of the incident, building evacuation completed, ladder access to the ventilation systems on the roof of the structure was requested, apparatus were assigned to hydrant area as well as one engine unit (E82-2) to the front the building. Specific units were assigned to staging area while all other responding apparatus were cancelled.
A strong electric odor in the kitchen was present and possibly an exhaust unit issue. There was also an electrical issue associated with loss of one phase nearby prompting a response from the electrical service provider. The electrical service to the facility was discontinued until resolution with the utility service provider.
The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.
