Nature: Watercraft In Distress
Location: Bay City (80)/ on the beach
Long Neck Rd and Main St Millsboro, DE 19966
On Saturday evening, October 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue incident in Bay City on the Beach. Additional emergency alerts included the Millsboro (83) VFC, Dagsboro (73) VFC, Mid Sussex (91) Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, the United States Coast Guard – Indian River Inlet Squad, the DNREC Marine Police, and the Delaware State Police Trooper 2 Aviation Unit.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush 80-0 with 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck facility, as well as Utility 80-8 and 80 Marine 1 and Command 80 from the Oak Orchard facility. The Delaware State Fire Police responded to the incident as well.
It was reported that a white boat ran into the rocks near the shoreline of Bay City and landed in the grassy area outside of the water. Additional reports included the possibility of three (3) mariners with unknown injuries.
It appears that a white Parker boat was traversing the waterways outside of Bay City and ran into the rocky rip rap and into the grassy area in the beach area of Bay City. Upon arrival of the incident responding apparatus, all others units were cancelled with the exceptions of the Delaware State Police and DNREC – Marine Police.
The mariners refused additional medical attention.
The DNREC Marine Police are investigating.
