Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics

Location: 32091 Oak Orchard Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

 

On Friday afternoon, September 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Millsboro (83) EMS, the Mid Sussex (91) Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2.  It was reported to be a vehicle accident involving a school bus with approximately 25 children on the bus.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control with the closure of Oak Orchard Road between River Winds and Chiefs Road, incident mitigation, evaluation and identification of student injuries, etc. 

It appears that a school bus backed into a utility pole breaking it in two with overhead electric wiring down across Oak Orchard Road.  It was identified that no children suffered any injuries and various school representatives were on location to coordinate resolution with the children’s transportation needs.  All other responding apparatus and EMS were cancelled prior to arrival at the incident location.  The respective utility service provider was notified to eradicate the downed overhead electrical wirings.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the roadway closure of Oak Orchard for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Delmarva Power responded and provided corrective action allowing the roadway to re-open.

The local school district representatives were contacted.
