Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: Cordrey Rd and Mount Joy Rd Millsboro, DE 19966
On Tuesday morning, September 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Mount Joy Road in the vicinity of Cordrey Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Millsboro (83) EMS, and the Sussex County Paramedics as well as a Rescue Assist from the Lewes (82) Fire Department based upon reports of occupant entrapment.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control, vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, assistance with patient removal and incident mitigation.
It appears that a blue Ford Escape and a green Nissan Xterra collided on Mount Joy Road near the intersection of Cordrey Road causing considerable damage to both vehicles. The occupant of the Ford needed extrication from the vehicle upon arrival of emergency response units. The additional rescue assistance from Lewes was cancelled while responding. One person was transported to nearby medical facilities for observation.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of Mount Joy Road between Cannon Road and John J. Williams Highway for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
