Location: 33558 Windswept Dr., Peninsula, DE 19966

On Sunday afternoon, August 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an elevator rescue on Windswept Drive in the Peninsula.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included elevator stabilization with power access temporarily disconnected, efforts to gain access, and assistance with occupant removal.  The occupants of the elevator were evaluated due to high humidity, temperatures, and duration of the incident.

It was reported that three (3) persons were trapped inside the elevator which was stuck between the first and second floor when it became inoperable.

Once access was made, the occupants were afforded an effort to vacate the elevator shaft via the second floor.  The Mid Sussex Rescue Squad was present and assigned to assist with EMS evaluations.
