Friday April, 10 2015 @ 03:05 Nature: Structure Fire Location: 28420 Delaware Ave Millsboro, DE 19966 Early Friday morning, April 10th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) departments were alerted for a working structure fire with possible entrapment at 28420 Delaware Avenue. This was reported to be a multi-residential structure with active fire being reporting. Ancillary units from Dagsboro (73), Frankford (76), and Georgetown (77) were utilized as cover up tasks. Emergency response units included Tanker 80, Rescue 80 and Engine 80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facilities. Emergency response units from Millsboro and Lewes were actively deployed with fire suppression responsibilities including but not limited roof ventilation, fire suppression activities, and water supply operations. Dagsboro's stand-by assignment was upgraded to assist with water supply and water shuttle. Incident Command 80 was notified that a firefighter on-scene reported actual working alarm. Upon arrival of the Incident Command, it was reported to be the Oak Orchard Apartment facility with heavy fire showing. Additional resources from the Office of the State Fire Marshall, the electric supply provider, and the American Red Cross were requested. It was reported that all residential occupants will be displaced. The local EMS provider and the Sussex County Paramedics were utilized for occupant evaluation and firefighter rehab assignments. The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating. Additional information will be provided as available. The American Red Cross is now assisting those people that resided at the complex. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating to determine how the fire started. Delaware Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio, says about $100,000 in damage was done to the complex. Just after 3am crews from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company found fire showing from the Oak Orchard Apartment facility. The American Red Cross has been called to help residents who are displaced by the fire. Officials with the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said one person died as result of the blaze, which broke out at around 3 a.m. Officials said the body was badly burned and have not yet identified the victim. Fire officials said several other people have been displaced. Fire crews said they encountered heavy fire when they arrived on scene. The blaze was contained around 4:15 a.m. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the building, which used to be an old hotel. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. |
