Nature: Brush Fire
Location: Oak Orchard Rd and Smiths Lndg., Millsboro, DE 19966
As 4th District State House of Representative Candidate Bradley Layfield was canvassing the Oak Orchard area, he and a potential constituent noticed smoke and went into the investigative mode to identify the concern. They located a small grass fire and called 9-1-1 prior to utilizing a blanket to suppress the fire.
On Friday afternoon, July 22nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vegetation/brush/grass fire on Oak Orchard Road near Smith’s Landing in Oak Orchard.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crews identified the cause of the fire as an electrical issue underground between the utility pole and meter panel. The ground was bubbling which is indicative of wiring concern prompting notification of the utility service provider – Delmarva Power. All other responding apparatus were cancelled while enroute.
The Delaware State Fire Police remained on scene pending arrival of Delmarva power for corrective action.
