Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 2 DOOR DOWN FROM ADDRESS

Address:  34989 Tugboat Ct Rehoboth Shores, DE 19966

On Monday evening, July 18th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire near Tugboat Court in the Rehoboth Shores development off Long Neck Road.  It was reported to be embers and flames visible with neighboring yards catching fire.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response crew assignments upon arrival identified this incident to be a marsh fire and not a structure however, due to the heat the siding on the manufactured home did melt.  Fire suppression assignments included extinguishment and saturation of the marsh area as well as wetting down the manufactured home.  All neighboring mutual aid companies were cancelled while responding to the incident.

It appears that the property occupant may have improperly disposed of tiki torches resulting in the marsh catching fire.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
