On Monday afternoon, February 16th as outside temperatures hovered around 15-16º farenheit, many residential and commercial locations suffered frozen or broken water pipes or sprinkler system breaks causing water flow alarms at many locations. These waterflow alarms activated the fire alarm systems and required the local fire companies to respond. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to many similar incidents on February 16th. Illustrated herewith are various photograph illustrating these concerns. The only method of mitigation was to deactivate the fire suppression systems, notify the emergency operations center and respective alarm company as well as appropriate maintenance personnel and a water restoration company. Many locations were deemed inhabitable for human residency due to the nature of the instances and exterior temperatures. |
