Nature: Pre-arranged Fireworks Standby Assignment – Leisure Point

Location: Sun Retreats – Rehoboth Bay (formerly Leisure Point)

On Saturday evening, July 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided a designated standby crew for fireworks display hosted by Sun Retreats – Rehoboth Bay in the Long Neck area.  This assignment included a fully staffed engine and brush crew assignment.

Indian River would like to remind residents to use fireworks with caution ahead of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.  Included herewith is commentary regarding firework safety.  Now that consumer fireworks are legal to acquire in Delaware and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips:

• Store fireworks in a cold, dry place.

• Do not make your own fireworks.

• Always use fireworks outside.

• Keep fireworks away from brush, leaves and any flammable substances.

• Have a bucket of water and a hose nearby in case of accidents.

• Do not point fireworks at anyone, even as a joke.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company utilized this opportunity to continue its Community Risk Reduction Initiative to highlight Golf Cart Safety, Fire Safety, Fire Prevention, as well as various Recruitment Initiatives.  These first responders distributed a recently published tri-fold golf cart safety pamphlet that highlights various safety tips as well as recruitment and retention initiatives.
