Nature: Structure Fire

Location: NEXT DOOR - 98 Rudder Rd Sea Farers Village, DE 19966

Early Thursday morning, June 30^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire at the commercial strip mall on Rudder Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression and preservation for fire marshal, secure hydrant and lay-in for water supply, and overall incident mitigation.

It appears that a single unit in the commercial strip mall encountered an exterior fire before being detected by a residential neighbor.  The fire was quickly extinguished.  Responding apparatus from Lewes were directed to the incident location and Millsboro was requested to provide a standby cover up assignment.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
