Nature: Distracted Driving Awareness Message
Location: Indian River Fire District
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company continues to see an increase of preventable vehicle accidents within our immediate fire district and encourages everyone to drive with a focus to reach their destination safely.
Distracted Driving Awareness promotes safety first! According to the National Safety Council (NSC), our roads are the most dangerous they’ve been in years; on a typical day, a number of people are killed and hundreds more are injured in distraction-affected crashes.
Distracted Driving Awareness is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and eliminate preventable deaths and injuries on our roadways. Here is what you can do for Distracted Driving Awareness to make our roads safer.
-
Turn off your phone.
-
Designate a sober driver.
-
Reduce your speed.
-
Wear your seat belt
-
Focus on driving and your driving habits.
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is spreading the word that distracted driving, including hands-free phone use and infotainment systems, puts everyone at risk!
Anything that takes your attention away from driving can be a distraction. Sending a text message, talking on a cell phone, using a navigation system, and eating while driving are a few examples of distracted driving. Any of these distractions can endanger you, your passengers, and others on the road.
There are three main types of distraction:
-
Visual: taking your eyes off the road
-
Manual: taking your hands off the wheel
-
Cognitive: taking your mind off driving
