Nature: House Fire

Location: 28410 Delaware Ave Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday afternoon, January 9th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire on Delaware Avenue in Oak Orchard. Arriving units determined that the house was located on Oak Orchard Road and Delaware Avenue with heavy smoke from the residential eaves and attic area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80, Engine 80-1, Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility with Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. The local emergency medical services provider and the Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched as well.

Emergency response crews were to initiate fire suppression activities where interior crews found heavy fire in the attic areas of the residential structure. Additional resources assisted with laddering the roof, chimney evaluation, ventilation, and other fire ground activities.

Assistance from the Delaware State Police was requested to ensure the property owner remained outside of the residential structure.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic and pedestrian control measures.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
